1" Blind: How To Replace A Wand Tilter

Parts Related To This Repair:1" Blind Tilters
These instructions cover two types of Mini Blinds, as shown in Style A (left column) and Style B (right column). Refer to the photographs that best fit your blind.
1. Remove headrail end stiffener from wand tilter end.
2. Remove C-clamp from in between drum and side of rod support. The clamp keeps the tilt rod from moving from side to side. There are no C-clamps in Style B. Instead, remove tilter rod support ladder clamps from tilt rod.
3. Slide tilt rod from wand tilter. For Style B, the tilt rod needs to be removed completely.
4. Spread headrail apart at wand tilter location and remove wand tilter. Style B is smaller and will not spread as easily. Grab wand tilter with pliers, twist to one side, and remove wand tilter from the headrail.
5. The new wand tilt will have a lip on the front, which will fit into the opening. Style B will not have a lip in front. Position wand tilter in place and snap into the back lip of the headrail.
6. Before pushing the rod, tilt back into the wand tilter, position the tab at the top; otherwise, the tilter will not thoroughly rotate.
7. Replace C-clamp. Replace ladder clamps, making sure not to twist the ladder.
8. Replace end stiffeners.

3. Slide tilt-rod away from tilter, taking care not to slide it past the drum.
4. Spread headrail enough to pop out tilter.
5. Pull tilter and cord away from headrail and discard.
6. Thread the new cord-tilter cord down through the opening and insert a new tilter. Notice the square lip on the tilter, make sure this lip seats into the hole, and then snap the tilter in place under the lip on the headrail.
7. Slide tilt rod back through tilter. Note: On the cord tilter for the 2 1⁄2" blinds, the black tab on the inside wheel, where the rod goes through, must be in the upright position before the tilt rod is slid back through the tilter.
8. Replace end stiffeners by tapping them under the lip in the headrail. Make sure the flat edge faces up.
9. Cord Tilt: Retie tassels and grommets onto the cord.

2" Blind: How To Replace A Slat

Sometimes a horizontal slat will become damaged, and the need to replace it will arise. It would be a great deal more pleasant to go ahead and do the repair in the home. It's possible and extremely simple. Here's how:
1. Remove the bottom rail plugs.
2. Under the plugs, you will find the ladder and knotted lift cord. Push the ladder aside and pull the lift cord out and cut the knot.

Cellular Shade: How To Replace A Cord Lock

Parts Related To This Repair: Cellular Shade Cord Locks
1. Remove the shade from the installation brackets. Unscrew joiner ball. Cut cords close to knot and washer.
2. Remove cord lock and color cap by pulling out of headrail.
3. Pry off color cap cover to expose cord lock assembly. Pull cord out and away from assembly and discard assembly.
4. The replacement cord lock comes unassembled. This is so it can be restrung. The parts that are sent are: a) Base, b) Roller, c) Valve, d) Saddle.
The pawl (e) is already inserted when it is received. Remember to specify when ordering replacement cord locks whether it is a right or left cord lock, for this will determine how the pawl is installed.
5. First, the saddle is placed into the grooves. The saddle has rails on both ends that will slide into grooves on the base. Slide the saddle all the way down into the grooves.
6. Next, slide the roller onto the post of the base. There is no top or bottom on the roller.
7. Thread the cords from the headrail around the roller, under the pawl, and over the saddle.
8. Next, the valve is inserted. Hook the cords through the valve and then seat the valve into the bigger grooves behind the saddle.
9. Make sure the metal side of the pawl is under the wing of the valve.
10. Replace the color cap onto the base, making sure that the roller stays in place. Push straight down on the cap with your thumbs until you hear a loud "snap."
11. Now, slide the finished cord lock assembly into the headrail and take care to keep from pinching the cords between the cord lock assembly and the headrail.
12. Thread both cords through the top of the joiner ball and washer and tie a knot securing the washer. Then screw on the bottom half of the joiner ball.

Cellular Shade: How To Re-String

Parts Related To This Repair: Blind/Shade String & Cord
1. Remove both end caps from the bottom rail, one end cap from the top rail.
2. Remove cord lock from the top rail.
3. Slide bottom rail and top rail exposing cords inside the shade.
4. To calculate the proper amount of string, use the window height x 2 + shade width + 12 inches.
5. Remove old string. Place washers aside for use in the next step. Then insert a new string with a threading needle and pull cords through the string.
6. Tie off new cords at the bottom using a washer from the old cord to prevent the cord from pulling through.
7. Slide bottom and top rail back on the shade.
8. Thread string into cord lock and reinsert cord lock back into the top rail.
9. Reinstall both end caps on the bottom rail and the one end cap on the top rail.
10. Measure from the cord lock down and add 2 inches, install the cord condenser ball. You will have 2 to 4 cords coming out of the shade (depending on the size of the shade) that will tie off inside of the cord condenser ball. You will also need a 1.8 mm size cord that is used as the pull string. This will be a single string that will be used to pull the shade up and down. This string is usually half the length of the string. You're done!

Vertical Blind: How To Replace Headrail Carriers

Parts Related To This Repair: Vertical Carrier
These instructions are for one-way cord draw L-60 headrails.
Begin by removing louvers from the vertical headrail and lay them flat on the floor. Remove the vertical blind from brackets and place it on a flat work surface. Pull the chain to where ends are even.
1. Remove idle end cover and place it to the side.
2. Loosen Allen screw (1/16") on control end.
3. Pull the cord ends away from the cord carrier and snip ends close. Cords can then be pulled out and away from the carriage and idle end with tilt bar still attached, and carriers can be removed from the headrail. (a) Take care not to lose the spacers located on the control end of the tilt bar.
4. To remove carriage units from the tilt bar, another Allen screw (5/64") will need to be loosened and removed between the first two carriage units. (b) Notice the notches made from the screw on the tilt bar. This is where the Allen screw will need to be returned.
5. Locate the carriage unit(s) that need replacing. Turn over and twist the topmost pigtail from the bottom of the carriage unit.
6. The other pigtail will need to be popped off using a flat piece of metal or a small flat-tip screwdriver. Insert flat tip on top of the pigtail, press the tab down, and push in to release the pigtail from the carriage unit.
7. To replace the carriage unit in the carriage assembly, place (c) the first pigtail into notches on the bottom of the carriage unit, then (d) place the second pigtail on top.
Holding both pigtails in place with your finger (e), pull the first pigtail until you hear a click. Both pigtails will be caught into the tabs on the bottom of the carriage unit.
8. Insert the tilt rod back through the carriage units.
9. Slide assembly back into the headrail. Remember to place a plastic ring with an Allen screw back between the first two carriage units. Also, remember to place the plastic spacers back onto the tilt rod before placing the tilt rod end into the control end. Tighten smaller Allen screw.
10. Thread cord back through each carriage unit.
11. Thread one end of cord out through idle end and back in around pulley wheel.
12. Thread each cord through the cord carrier, threading from the top, and put knots on each end.
13. Replace control end into the headrail, snugging onto tilt rod. While pushing the tilt rod from the idle end into the headrail, tighten down the Allen screw on the control end. Upon completion, hold the headrail upright, carriers pointing down, and pull the chain to realign carriers. Pull chain all the way in one direction until it doesn't move anymore. Give it a firm tug. It will sound like gears are stripping. Pull the chain in the opposite direction and repeat the firm tug. Reinstall into the window opening and reinsert louvers.

Woven Wood: How To Re-Cord Shade

Parts Related To This Repair: Blind/Shade String & Cord
There may come a time a cord breaks on a woven wood shade for some reason or another. Don't fret; this is an easy fix. Follow along with these instructions.
First things first. Remove the shade from the window and place shade on a flat surface front side down. Flip over the valance to expose the headrail. Untie the cord from the bottom guide tie-off ring located on the backside of the shade near the bottom hem. Determine which cord in the cord lock, located on the headrail, is the broken cord and pull the broken cord free from the pulley and cord lock.
1. To re-cord, insert the cord end into the cord lock between cord separators and then between the rollers.
2. Thread cord through the top of the pulley. If the first cord is the one being replaced, then pull the cord down through the side of the pulley. If the broken cord is the next one in line, run the cord to the appropriate pulley and then run down through the pulley.
3. Lift up the headrail from the flat surface enough to see the grommet in the fabric. Run the cord through this grommet to the backside of the shade. Pull a fair amount of cord through to work on the backside of the shade.
4. Fan-fold the shade fabric so the guide rings line up close together.
5. Thread cord through all the guide rings. Tie a knot on the bottom guide tie-off ring.
6. Flip shade over to show the front side. Stretch out to full length. The tasseled end of the cords will reach the midway point of the shade.
7. Add a tassel onto the new cord. Thread cord into the top end of the tassel, insert the cord into tassel grommet (small end first), tie a knot on the end of the cord, then pull knot up into the tassel.
